Depression can be an isolating and challenging experience, but you don't have to face it alone. This article will explore the different types of depression and the warning signs. Recognizing these signs is the first step towards healing and taking charge of your mental well-being. Read on, or watch our video:

Types of Depression

There are several different types of depression. The most common types include:

  1. Major depressive disorder (MDD): This is the most well-known type of depression, also known as clinical depression, and is characterized by persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, and other symptoms that last for at least two weeks.
  2. Persistent depressive disorder (PDD): This is a chronic form of depression that lasts for at least two years, and may involve milder symptoms than MDD.
  3. Bipolar disorder: This is a mood disorder that involves episodes of depression alternating with episodes of mania or hypomania.
  4. Postpartum depression: This is a type of depression that affects some women after giving birth, and can involve feelings of sadness, anxiety, and difficulty bonding with the baby.
  5. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD): This is a type of depression that is related to changes in seasons, and typically occurs during the fall and winter months.
  6. Psychotic depression: This is a type of depression that is characterized by symptoms of depression as well as psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations or delusions.
  7. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD): This is a type of depression that is associated with the menstrual cycle, and typically occurs in the week before menstruation.

It's important to note that everyone's experience of depression is different, and some people may experience symptoms that don't fit neatly into one of these categories. This article, however, is mainly focused on major depressive disorder.
